Product Solution:
We were approached by the Architectural firm, Thomas Phifer and Partners to help solve their natural lighting aspirations for the new addition to the North Carolina Museum of Art. Originally specified as a GFRG (Glass Fiber Reinforced Gypsum) The 7'-0" x 7'-0" x 26'-0" Bell Shaped light coffer proved to be more than the original material could sustain.
Through the use of finite element analysis engineering models we were able to formulate an FRP laminate schedule which allowed the 26'-0" coffer to be structurally attached to the ceiling supports with only 4 corner attachment locations and zero deflection. The end result was 362 beautiful coffers and a magnificent lighting feature.
